Who Is King Kaution? The Story Behind the Artist, Producer & Entrepreneur

If you're just discovering King Kaution, understand one thing from the beginning: I'm more than just a rapper.

I'm an independent recording artist, music producer, entrepreneur, content creator, and the mind behind Rookies 2 Legends Music Group. I'm from Grand Rapids, Michigan—the 616—

and I've spent years turning my creativity into something I can call my own.

Music has been part of my life since I was young. I grew up listening to music from my parents' collection and was influenced by hip-hop artists like LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee, Doug E. Fresh, and many others. Seeing a real studio setup as a kid also opened my eyes to what happened behind the music.

I didn't just want to rap.

I wanted to make the music too.

My Life Changed, But the Music Didn't Stop

My journey took a major turn after a drunk-driving accident left me paralyzed from the chest down.

Today, I'm a quadriplegic and use a power wheelchair.

That could have been the end of my story.

Instead, it became another chapter.

I continued writing. I continued recording. I continued producing beats. I continued learning the business. Most importantly, I continued building.

That's where the phrase Built Different means something deeper to me. It isn't just a catchy slogan. It's about adapting to circumstances and finding another way to accomplish what you set out to do.

Rookies 2 Legends

I created Rookies 2 Legends around a simple idea:

Rookies come and go, but Legends last forever.

Anybody can start something. The challenge is staying committed long enough to build something that lasts.

That philosophy carries over into my music, production, clothing, and everything else I'm creating.

I'm not waiting on a record label to turn King Kaution into a brand.

I'm building the brand myself.

Artist AND Producer

One of the biggest advantages I've developed throughout my career is being able to work on both sides of a record.

I'm an artist, but I'm also a producer.

When I hear a beat, I'm thinking about drums, samples, melodies and arrangements—but I'm also thinking about hooks, verses, flows and how another artist could attack the record.

That's why I've built my own beat store for independent artists looking for production for their next song or project.
